Schwarze Kiste (eng.Black Box)

The room is divided by large, heavy curtains that block out nearly all light, save for a few narrow gaps. The curtains are white on the outside and black on the inside. In the outer area, four microphones hang suspended in space. Visitors can speak into them, their voices blending with the ambient sounds of the room. Positioned directly in front of each microphone, a small speaker emits a distorted echo. This sound is produced by an oscillator, whose pitch is continuously modulated by the control voltage derived from the incoming microphone signal.

At the end of the hallway is a metal tube from which the same sound can be heard. A narrow slit leads into the inner, black room. There, six speakers are installed at various positions. The sounds previously recorded by the microphones arrive in the black room with varying delays and are played back through the speakers. Additionally, another microphone hangs inside, which re-records the sounds in the room and plays them back into the room with a time delay.

Der Spion

The interactive installation "Der Spion" by Zimmer enables viewers to transfer the movements of their resonating bodies into the materials as they approach. Employing "secret techniques", the installation transmits frequencies that trigger a chain reaction. This process breaks all established rules of tonal sciences.
